A Responsive Approach to Public Art

What happens when public art begins with the act of listening? As a commissioning organization stewarding the City of Calgary’s public art program, Calgary Arts Development’s unique approach to public art is aligning with our commitment to support artists, our belief in the power of artists to shape the city of the future, and to see Calgary’s creative economy thrive.  We deliver a program that is relevant, transparent and engaging; guided by our commitment to EDIA and Reconciliation; and our breadth of knowledge and deep relationship with Calgary’s arts community. We see the public art program as one tool for community development and belonging, and a driver for more liveable, safer and inspiring neighbourhoods.

During this presentation and panel discussion, we will provide an overview of our responsive approach to public art commissioning, engagement stories, and a conversation about our approach to Indigenous Led engagement. There will be time for Q and A at the end of the presentation.
